Hey I’ve done a tone of testing on forks with the bbr springs and rods I recommend 30wt oil and 130 from the top with the fork completely compressed and the spring out then also don’t put the preload spacer back in. With the spacer in it makes it feel kinda pogo when you hit bigger jumps hope this helps! This is an older thread, you may not

When adding oil to the forks they should be cycled up/down to get all of the air out. When you extend the fork oil is transfers down into the slider, if there is not enough oil air will be sucked into the slider near full extension, you can hear the noise of the air mixing with the oil as it goes into the slider.

creeky. Posted November 10, 2009. Fork capacity for the '87 is 535cc (18.1 oz). Standard oil level is 135mm, max level 125mm, min level 165mm. Measure level from the top of the tube, springs out, forks collapsed. The service manual calls for ATF, which works OK, but I have had better results with Spectro 10w fork oil.

Use a good motorcycle oil with JASO MA rating. Using an automotive oil can cause premature clutch failure as well as premature wear on the cam and cam followers and head. I suggest a good motorcycle semi synthetic oil at least. I suggest a 10w40 or 15W50. Edited March 28, 2012 by Dwight_Rudder.
Posted July 21, 2009. according to my manual '86-'89 forks should be 535cc. nick. My manual says the same. You can use more or less oil to provide more or less damping. Maximum oil level, measured from the top of the tube with the springs out and fork collapsed, is 125mm (more damping) Minumum level is 165mm (less damping). Vt6t565.
